MAP gas torch applied to the chamber of the head where it will heat 
the area of the tapped boss, gently work the thermistor around with a 
socket until it loosens.  Might take a while.   Don't apply torch 
heat to the thermistor itself.  Heat the threaded aluminum boss, not 
the thermistor.

Yes.


By the way, it's not terribly hard to modify a 3/8x16 tapped head to 
accept the 3/8x24 threaded thermistor.
