Many people might not know that solid rear axles have toe-in! they do it by
boring the tube bores in the cast iron housing about .050 ahead of the ring
gear centerline. When the steel tubes are pressed in and welded that makes
the outer axle bearings ahead of the actual axle center giving you slight
toe-in at the wheels. Yes, the splines are going into the side gears
crooked and the outer bearings aren't running true, but they eventually lap
themselves into a "happy fit".
