<VV> regular gas and fuel economy in a 110hp corvair

Greetings folks,

     I finally have my 65' Monza 110/PG coupe daily driver on the road and ready to go.  My fuel mileage has been terrible, and it pings on regular so I had to retard the timing.  

     I would like some advice on how best to make the 110 economical to commute with.  Advice on timing settings and other adjustments would be much appreciated!
