Excuse me, but are you doing this correctly?  If I remember correctly  to 
check bearing clearances you should be using the GREEN plastigage that  measures 
up to a 0.003" clearance. How come you are able to see 8  thou? 
 
I'd suggest you take the crank and rods to a reputable mechine shop and  have 
them mike both.
