Though not called Corvette, the curvy one-off Astro II of 1968
fueled rumors that a mid-engine Chevy sports car was near.
Developed as GM project XP-880, it was a follow-up to the
previous year's Corvair-based Astro I, but carried a
Corvette V-8 and conventional doors.
The entire rear half of the body was
hinged to tilt up for engine access...

Subject: <VV> Does anyone know anything about the XP880
Was looking around the web and stumbled across a reference to a Chevrolet
Styling concept car labeled as the XP880. The caption stated it was a 1967
model, but looked very similar to some of the Corvair concepts. It even had
a flip up rear panel with vents. Was this a Corvette concept with a Corvair
driveline? I can't seem to find anything but a picture or two of the car.
Absolutely no descriptions (in English, at least).
