<VV> Fuse Warning (non-Corvair)

That's but the tip of the iceberg. At the risk of getting political, the
truth is that we flat out buy way too much stuff from China, simply because
of price. In the words of Bill Mitchell, Americans have always sacrificed
everything for price. And since China pays such low wages (not to mention
other factors), it can afford to ship stuff over here and STILL sell it at
bargain basement prices. The result is that we have a horrendous balance of
trade deficit with them, and all of our money is supercharging their
economy. And they outpopulate us to boot.
As far as quality goes, China's reputation is spotty at best. Unlike the
Japaneese, who first exported nothing but junk, then learned the quality
lesson (and very well), the Chineese have exported enough good quality
stuff so as not to totally ruin the entire country's reputation. YET. Just
how it will play out in the coming years is anybody's guess. But if we
continue to buy products from China at the same or, worse, increased rate
that we have been, then we risk handing them all of our manufacturing base.
The result will be that we will become a third-world economic power with
mostly only a super-rich mini-minority but the vast majority being very
poor.
As for me, I avoid buying "made in China" products as much as possible.
Though it's getting more difficult all the time.
BTW, I CC'ed VVtalk, so as to maybe move this thread there.
