<VV> Rough Idle and Vacuum Leaks

Lately I have been experiencing a rough idle under load with my Monza 110. I have suspected vacuum leakage (probaby also needs the carbs synced but the Uni-syn is still on order). I noted in a previous post that another member isolated a vacuum leak at the crossover tube between the carbs. After reading that, I ran out and checked mine. Sure enough, my tube fits very loosely into the two vacuum lines. So loosely that I can pull the tube out of the lines with very little effort. The lines are marked "5/16 inch". My question is: what size hose is supposed to be used to keep the crossover tube firmly attached to the two carbs? The 5/16 hose seems large to me. Thanks for the help!
