Thanks for all the quick feedback on this dilemma.   Lots of interesting 
suggestions and good ideas. 

Based in part on your feedback (especially the parts about the costs and 
risks of shipping a car like this), but mostly on Bill Elliott's kind 
offer that I can use his open trailer, I think I will run up there myself 
and pick up the car at the end of the month.   I have a good tow vehicle 
(wife's SUV) and  there is nothing like a road trip to signal the start of 
a new project.
