Smitty and other CORSA members,
The BOD meeting in Detroit was my first, so I can't comment on the amount of
work we did relative to other meeting. I though the meeting was productive
and informative. To address the specific questions...
- What was accomplished by the BOD this year?
The BOD has a e-mail group just like VV. We are nearly constantly discussing
all manner of subjects. As with the annual meeting, we even vote via e-mail.
There have been many things that we have done since I joined the BOD in
June. The big things are reported in the Communique and the annual meeting
minutes will also be published.
- Marketing?
- Membership Marketing?
The marketing of CORSA and the benefits of membership were addressed. This
happens to be one of my pet projects for my time on the board. I happen to feel
that CORSA is a great asset to every Corvair owner. As with any
organization, it really is what you make of it. Mike and Harry offered to print up copies
of the "Top Ten Reasons" (see CORSA web site) on one side of a flyer and
either print chapter info on the other side or allow the chapters to print their
own info. These flyers can then be handed out at club events to interested,
potential members. My push for chapter web sites is also a form of marketing.
You'll be reading more about this when it's my Turn at The Wheel.
- Publicity?
We talked about exposure in the "General Automotive" press. Grassroots
Motorsports would be a great place to start since the owners have a Spyder. I
think you'll see more ads in the near future. It all depends on funding.
- CORSA Merchandise?
What about the merchandise? After 6 years of some great work, Debbie Pleau
has stepped down and the chair. Something about Dennis retiring and them moving
to CA. During Debbie's time, CORSA has done very well with merchandise
sales. We introduced several new shirts and the ultra-cool "grill badge". Do you
have one? I do and I saw several on cars in Detroit, very stylish.
- CORSA website improvements to the web site and improvements or assistance
to chapters?
Harry continues to make improvements to the CORSA site. The new "members"
section is great and will soon be better. I'm very excited about the changes
we'll see in the near future. As far as assistance to chapters, are we still
talking about web sites? If so, you're really cutting into my first Turn at the
Wheel, but I'll leak some more. I have been working on a simple web site
tutorial. It's just the basics, nothing fancy. My hope is that it will remove
some of the mystery in setting up simple web pages. I also have an Excel macro
(if you know me, you're laughing now) that will write simple html pages.
Right now it's geared for our club web site, but I plan to make it more generic
for others to use. I'm also trying to put together a group of CORSA web page
"experts" that could help answer questions that chapters might have. I still
have lots of planning and begging to do before that happens, but you can see
the direction we're going.
I hope that answers your questions. I would invite all members to contact
their CORSA directors with questions. Their contact info can be found on the
CORSA web site and the Communique. You can also ask Harry and Mike questions,
they won't bite, much :^). If you ask questions on VV you should also get
answers too. There are several directors on this list. I'll always do my best to
answer the questions I can and find the answers I don't know.
