Doing the exterior of a shop to match the house really helps with spouse and 
neighbor relations.  If separate, screening with upright bushes helps 
too..little landscaping goes a long way.  Even if you put up a separate 
block, stucco, wood, or steel building shop, painting & facing the front and 
side that faces the house and street including outside lamps that match 
house, will make the shop look less industrial and out of place in a 
neighborhood, and in the long run, you'll like it more, too.
