<VV> electric fan idea

Has anyone ever considered just driving the factory magnesium corvair fan with an electic motor?  The easiest solution I would think would be to belt drive the stock fan with an electric motor that puts out enough power... electric motors are generally not short on torque so I wouldnt think this would be too hard to accomplish........
