Actual "one wire" alternators won't make the idiot light work without an 
addtional wire. I think you mean "internally regulated" alternator. 
Internally regulated alternators can be made "one wires" by changing the 
regulator. An alternator with one wire won't work the light and it has to be 
revved to "turn on". Most "one wire" regulators can be made to work a light 
if you run a wire to the #1 terminal on the alternator. That is the one 
closest to the big terminal stud.

Actually three of us did.  It worked for two of us, but not for me.  I just 
had
to get my one wire rebuilt, and asked the guy why my idiot light wouldn't 
work,
and he said there are two kinds of rectifiers (???) and the idiot light will
only work with one kind.  I can't remember if this is covered in TCC as I 
last
read the article two years ago.  I'll find out if the rebuilder was right 
when I
get home in a week.
