The June 2007 Hemmings Classic Car has a small bit on a Studebaker developmental/test vehicle with a 1953 aircooled Porsche flat four engine and transaxle mounted in the rear of what appears to be a fairly stock looking late '50's Lark body. (one picture , body is white). Hemmings states that it belongs to the Studebaker Museum. Hmmm , makes you wonder if the folks at Stude got wind of what GM was doing... Also The May 2007 Classic Motorsports has an article on the Nissan Silvia (right hand drive, never sold in North America) first produced as a '65 model. It is neat how much the front of the Silvia looks like a late model Corvair, the four headlights and the curve and contour of the hood. It looks more Vair like than the Opel 1900/Manta of the early '70's. What a shame that Nissan didn't get any nice body styling like that on the otherwise great 510 of '68-'73 which was a budget worldbeater with its IRS but it was as ugly as the northend of a southbound
mule, some of the later '70's budget Datsuns like the 200Sx were the strangest looking. May 2007 Grassroots has an interesting article on a low budget reengineering of a 2nd gen RX-7, the '86-'91 series by transplanting small block Chev V8 , all accomplished under $2K. The May 2007 issue of Street Rod Builder on p 58-p61 has a good article about fuel injection and what to look out for when adapting a oem production system. Interesting all the the discussion on the cibie/BMW lights and maximizing mpg. Keep that can do tinkering spirit alive , Sylvester Stewart, a.k.a.
