Check this out, some interesting things to see,  http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/research.htm         There wasn't much interest in type IV powerplant  until  the European crowd started converting them to upright (Beetle style) cooling fan set up and stuffing em into Ghias and Bugs.  Only after this took off in the early '90's was there a concerted effort by a few major firms to seriously develop this powerplant by the aftermarket.
