If you want the clear to be glossy, the black MUST be painted over the
clear. Otherwise you have a base coat/ clear coat system which results
in the clear determining the gloss.

>Howdy all, I have headlight bezels that have had the anodizing remove and been polished to a mirror finish. I plan on clear coating them to preserve the polished finish (and avoiding the task of yearly polishing). Since the black accents on the 1963-64 headlight bezels are supposed to be a "satin" finish, does anyone have tips for accomplishing the task of both protecting the glossy polished aluminum finish and having the requisite satin finish on the same piece? Is it advisable to clear coat the entire piece and then mask/paint in the black accents? Will the black paint stick to the clear coat or is other/more prep needed? Eastwood's Nylac (sp?) and Ace Hardware's clear coat have been endorsed in this forum for use over polished metal - is any other product now recommended? Any advice is helpful. Thanks all, Bob Hawley (1963 Spyder conv - still in the paint shop)
