So Doran and I got around to removing the dipstick tube this weekend. We received a number of helpful suggestions. Some folk said just "wack it" hard. Some suggested putting a bolt inside that would allow gripping it with vice grips, or using a Phillips screw driver through it that you could hit with a hammer. One said heat it in the kitchen oven --- not something to bring joy to my lady. (Actually went looking for a counter top oven/toaster oven that might work to buy for the shop. They don't make them big enough to take a piece that is 16.5" long.) And some said heat with a propane/butane torch.
We put a long Phillips screw driver through the tube from the bottom. I then heated the crankcase around where the tube goes through with a propane torch. Every once in a while I would have Doran hit the head of the screw driver with a ball peen hammer. After ten minutes or so of heating, the tube started moving when Doran wacked the srew driver, and came out real easy. Hope getting the new one in will be as simple.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
