Hank, amen! Could not have said it better myself. I take my six year old to
lots of car events and soon the three year old (next summer, when he is more
like four and a half). As a parent, kids do like I do, regardless of what I
say.

Folks
After reading Gary's post, I was flabbergasted. Of course I believe him,
but I guess this makes me happy that I collect the types of cars I do.

If I know any "hardware junkies", they aren't too loud about it.

I know there are very competitive types in CORSA---in Concours, in
Autocross, and there's nothing wrong with a healthy competitive spirit. If
I had to guess, what makes our folks compete is for self satisfaction, and
maybe a little extension of ego--. Inside all of us there's a little bit of
our cars being an extension of each owners personality.

But anyone who spends thousands of dollars and hours to restore a car to
collect trophies needs to corral that ego some IMO. If you win, great! If
you don't, be a good sport! Nearly all of the members and events that I
have been to as a CORSA member have just that spirit.

In CORSA there's lots of good natured ribbing --especially between some of
the autocross guys. And its given and taken in that way.

The day I see some sore loser spin up dirt and rocks because he didn't
win/get a trophy, I hope the cops get to him first. I can understand the
urge to do something to the guy, but the story that Gary related made me
ill. To me, that's just the worst case scenario.

ARMO hands out pins and tags that says "Bring a kid to a Car Show".
Competitors in some shows need to be reminded that there ARE kids---young
ones---at car shows, and what they see of how older people act can influence
them. If a kid at a car show saw THAT display, he'd probably take up stamp
collecting instead of cars.
