<VV> The ubiquitous rain gutter on a late Corvair

I have been around Corvairs for almost 20 years and owned quite a few,but I have never seen one with a rain gutter on the trunk railing.  The one that is supposed to protect the wiper motor [I think].
  Has anyone ever seen one or know where it goes on a car.  I now own one and don't know what to do with it.
