Anyway, it turns out that two elderly ladies car battery dies and they could
not get out of their electronic-locked car, in So Cal heat, easily 110
degrees. (My car has gone as high as 135 degrees when it was 102 outside)

Should they design a fail safe that unlocks the doors when the battery dies
? Would this make the mfgr liable for stolen cars ?

I would like to see the actual facts on that one. Every car I have seen has
a method for mechanically unlocking the door. But I haven't seen everything.
On my C6 Corvette, there are no door handles for opening the door from the
inside. They use an electric push button and solenoid to open the door (shades
of the Kustom Fifties/Sixties cars). However, on the floor, next to the rocker
panel is a manual release lever that opens the door. I have used it to exit
the car while the engine is running, hard to do otherwise, usually at an
autocross where I want the car to cool down between runs, which it will do with
the motor running. Chevy really wants you to put the car in reverse and turn
off the motor before getting out. It is often frustrating. - Seth Emerson
