My experience with laptops is that they maintain a full charge for about 2 
years and then taper for a year or two before not even lasting long enough 
to boot.

Guess if you drive 50,000 miles a year, it would go for 100,000 before it 
begins to taper. Just how many laptop batteries does it use ?

ps Tesla really did some good work in his early days with George 
Westinghouse to keep him on the ground but became a bit eccentric later. I 
do prefer alternators.
