The best solution to that problem is found in the CORSA Tech Guide. You
replace the vent stack with a convertable vent stack and trim off the
coupe/4door kick panel's stack. Then all you need is a *little* silicone
sealer, instead of humongous gobs of slimy gray putty.
In noting this and other anomalies with convertables, I get the
impression that they were really low on the priority list, almost to the
point of being an afterthought. Had GM REALLY been on the ball, they
would have made the separate vent stack common, thus saving untold
numbers of 55-gallon drums worth of putty. Certainly, had I been working
on the line at the time, that would have been a savings suggestion I
would have submitted in a heartbeat.

Upon removing the panels I found none of the usual white sticky putty that is normally around the vent. I am not sure if this stuff is still available and the parts store guy just gives me the "deer in the headlights" look (probably thinking...the wierd corvair guy looking for something no body else ever needs....)
