<VV> Timing Gun to plug No. 6

This whole thread has me confused. What are to trying to do? Why can't you
time off of #1 like everyone else?
Plug #2 will give you the same results as #1. Plug #6 is advanced by 60°
(from #1)
By 'misindexed' means the distributor is installed 180° wrong.
If you have the rotor pointing at #1 tower, the timing mark should be
SOMEWHERE near zero time, but certainly not to be used as a point to lock
the distributor down. It MAY be good enough to get the engine started, and
then dial it in. Don't forget that if you're using one of those fancy timing
lights that allows you to dial in advance, that you are aware of it's
setting before you check timing.

I think as another colleague pointed out in an offline email,
the distributor might be "mis-indexed" (I'm using his term).

If so, and after making sure the harmonic balancer has not slipped,
how do you check to make sure the distributor is correctly indexed.

When the rotor is pointing to No. 1 plug, where should the timing mark be?

  Regards,

  Tony
