<VV> EM and FC axle yokes

My FC axle yokes show light red rust around the splines at the axle shafts  
indicating some movement.  Since there is already movement and the two  pieces 
are "working" against one another is there a downside to some light lube  at 
this point to minimize wear.  My spare yokes also show some sign of  limited 
slop.  Nothing is worn that badly so I'm not worried (yet) about  anything 
letting go.  What have others done?
