Turbo shaft end play is controlled by the shims between the bearing 
and the center housing.  Clarks for one carries a set of different 
thickness shims, so it shouldn't be hard to adjust the end play.  The 
shop manual (at least the late model -- '65 manual) gives a good step 
by step set of instructions on how to select the proper shim.

Of course, this assumes the problem isn't somewhere else.
