I used to have a '72 GTO Station Wagon with a dual action tailgate, the 
glass slid down and it opened either to the side like a door if you wanted 
to get into the lower storage compartment or down like a tailgate if you 
wanted to back into a drive in movie.The 400 engine never lost a tow-car 
race even when pulling a Corvette on a dual axle trailer. Got 15 mpg 
without rig and 12.5 mpg with. Suspect it would have been better if not 
turning 3000 rpm at 70 with the special order "economy" axle. Didn't care then.
