<VV> Blew the Electrical

Sounds like you have a high resistance in the wiring and when you try to
draw much current the voltage drops.
The thing to do is get a voltmeter and start measuring looking for voltage
showing up down what should be a straight connection.

First, check the battery. Put the voltmeter across the battery terminals
and turn on the lights. If the battery voltage drops more than a volt, the
battery is toast.
Second, measure the voltage between the negative batt. terminal and the
engine with the lights on. It should be very low - less than a volt.
Repeat measuring to chassis ground instead of the engine.
Third, measure between the positive batt. terminal and the fuse box with the
lights on. Again, the drop should be low.
Etc.

What you're looking for is a bad connection indicated by a high voltage. If
you find one, work the measuring points closer and closer together until you
find where the problem is.

The last time this happened to me, the battery terminal to battery cable
connection had melted.

Roger

PS: If you don't have a voltmeter, they're less than $10 at whatever serves
for Radio Shack up there in the frozen north. ;-)

The battery hold down on my RS came loose. Allowing the battery to slide
and the positive terminal to contact the latch mechanism on the cover. I've
replaced the chassis to engine ground, and borrowed a battery from Shawn.

With the ignition in the off position the stereo is getting power, unless
you turn on the lights, in which case the lights come on and the stereo goes
off. The aftermarket stereo is drawing power from the cigarette lighter
prong on the fuse block. Turning the key to the on and/or start position
turns the power to the stereo off. The engine will not start, no clicking
from the solenoid.

Any thoughts on where I should start looking for what got fried?

Regards,
Joel
