Sometimes I've gotten lucky because of the obscure way items are listed
which prevents the "High Dollar" impulse buyer from seeing it. Recently I
picked up an original GM upper ball joint that fits many of the cars from
the 60's including the Corvette. I wanted it because it was what was used
for both the upper and lower balljoint on an UltraVan. The GM ones work the
best for the UltraVan application. Anyway, it wasn't listed as fitting a
Corvette, just the GM part number. I picked it up for $30 which included
the shipping, that's cheaper than an aftermarket balljoint. Right now, the
same type GM balljoint is on eBay for $80 and the auction isn't over yet.
Only difference is that "Fits Corvette" was used in the description.
What some have said...Emotion is what auctions and eBay banking on. If you
can control you emotion for an item, you can get some good deals. I'm not
above blowing it though and let my emotions on eBay get the best of me
awhile back. I ended up with a Whale of a problem for my gullibility :-)
