I just repaired a valve cover hole PERMANENTLY by drilling and tapping to 3/8-16, loctiting in a grade 2 bolt and cutting off flush with the gasket surface, then drilliing and tapping to 1/4-20.

Use a 1" long 1/4-20 bolt instead of the factory 3/4" bolt. IIRC.
