It is indeed a black wire with a pink stripe for 1965 and a pink wire in
'66-'69. The pink stripe may appear to be purple because it is printed on a
black wire.
Please check a wiring diagram. Pink is referenced as "P" and purple is
"PPL".
The one and only circuit in the REAR of the car that uses a PURPLE wire is
the one which makes the starter engage.
Yes, the pink wire has 12 volts in both the "run" and "start" positions of
the ign switch. The 12 gauge purple wire has 12 volts only in the start
position.
