Padgett,
Wouldn't just flipping the lid upside down be cheaper?
I've seen guys take the flexible duct off 70s & 80s cars and snake it  back 
to the plenum/firewall... I think a "shaker" style hood would be  interesting 
on the back, but good luck keeping anything clean back there... I'd  even seen 
one where a guy took out the backup light housing and ran a snorkel to  
that...
