"Racers,

  Years ago on a street car I used the stock air cleaner set up on large over
bored carbs and a hot rodded engine. Something was restricting. I tried all
the tricks: cutting the snouts off--dumb move. Turning the lid over, removing
the filter, etc. Nothing helped. I then spaced the 90 degree turn down where
the air arms enter the carbs another inch higher above the carbs with
aluminum tubing.. This fixed it, the turn was the problem, otherwise the air
cleaner is large enough for a V8. On a later Turbo engine I plumbed a 140 air
cleaner in toto into the mounted Q-Jet. Still plenty of flow
