Check the ground between the sending unit and the oil filter adapter 
or block.  The hollow bolt people use to mount the sender doesn't 
always have a good ground path -- there's a fiber washer seal between 
the shoulder of the bolt and the oil filter adapter and the filter 
itself is insulated by its rubber gaskets.

I use an aluminum crushable washer from a Honda oil pan bolt instead 
to ensure good ground.
