     I would not drive the car without the weights.  The difference in smoothness and vibration is very pronounced on many road surfaces.  You might think it is not important on an asphalt two lane but a concrete highway with constant expansion joints will knock the fillings out of your teeth, not to mention fatigue from constant steering corrections.  The cowl shake can be visible without the weights.
