Tim,
Contrary to your belief, Corvairs really do vapor lock. It just takes a  
fairly high ambient temperature and a certain type of gasoline. As I have said  
before, many don't understand the temperatures we have here in the SW unless you 
 actually live here. Consider PHX where the summer temperature might hit 110  
degrees for around 30 CONSECUTIVE days and NEVER drop below 90 during that  
period. Air conditioning adds a considerable heat load the the engine and a hot 
 soak can, and often does, cause the gas in the pump and associated lines to  
vaporize and block liquid flow.
While many of you may never have experienced vapor lock, I have on many  
occasions with several Corvairs.
