<VV> Vapor lock/fuel return line?

Ok, now I've heard everything....
But never this before.
What would cracking the fuel line at the carb do to help cure vapor
lock? The floats are not floating in the carbs, so the needle is open
allowing any vapor being pumped into the carb to pass through the float
bowl vent to the atmosphere already.
Is this one of those cause and effect situations where the cure is
misdiagnosed? Like in the time it takes to get the tools out, and the
engine lid is open, the engine (fuel pump and lines) cools down enough
that it starts pumping liquid fuel instead of vapor fuel to the carbs?
So cracking the lines is given cure status instead of time and cool air?
I always liked the clothespins on the fuel lines myself. A typical flat
head Ford modification.
