Don't worry; if you have a modern car, they sometimes get problems too,
and THEN you wish you had an old car, and need not pay lots of money
for simple but computerized tests, and replacement of black boxes just
because nobody has a real idea what's wrong.
The Corvair at least gives you a chance for own diagnostics when the
engine stalls; for fuel problems just check if linkage movements
provide nice squirts of gas inside the carbs, for ignition just
test an additional spark plug grounded to the chassis. If this is
ok, the engine should at least start, if it does not want to idle,
play a little with timing (check/turn the distributor).
But yes, for bad weather and zero maintenance it does not hurt to have
a 10 year old japanese car around, mine is a 93 NX100 ;-)
