While I would doubt that there is an intermittent vacuum leak, one
possibility is a very loose hose from the carb balance tube to the carb
mounting base on the heads. It "could" move back and forth when starting
and stopping the car. Check to make sure it is bolted firmly to the front
shroud and that the hoses are still in good shape. The 140 uses a special
design. FWIW,
