<VV> Clutch; transmission, differential diagnosis

Thank's Robert,

Don't know why I didn't do it earlier. I removed the cover where the
clutch rod and connects to the shift fork and out tumbled a cup full of
crumbled pressure plate facing. Not sure yet what else has been
affected but I will probably replace everything and add a Dale bolted
flywheel as well, since at I may likely have to deal with the riveted
flywheel failure if it has not yet been changed. If that is my choice
can (should) I change to the 64 style clutch (stepped flywheel) which
the Fisher book, "How to Hotrod Corvair Engines", states, "...the
latest Spyder or truck clutches (1964) are obviously best..."?

Having had a bad experience with an FC clutch swap I wonder what if any
mod's are involved. I recall the mention of needing 1/8"washers
between clutch cover and flywheel . Is this the case or have the kits
supplied by vendors accomodated or obviated this swap since the Fisher
book was published? I do not expect to autocross my 1963 Spyder but
will likely engage in some "spirited" driving. I could tolerate a stiff
clutch and I am the sole driver.

Bill
