We just went thru the same problem. Turned out the biggest problem was the cables , we could barely turn them by hand. We also cleaned up the gearboxes, but we had the top frame off the car. We took the old cables, clamped them in a vise so they were verticle to the ground and filled them up with WD 40 until they started to leak out the bottom. Let them set overnight and pulled the inner cable out the next day and cleaned them and the cable casing. We than soaked the inner cables in a bucket of oil overnight and reassembled into the casing and back into the car. They work better than they ever had. Hope this helps. We also discovered any slightly dirty battery connection will greatly affect the speed of the up & down operation.

Also, when I was asking about places to lubricate, I wasn't thinking
about the top motor. I was wondering about specific places on the top
frame, pivot points, etc.

Thanks.
