No, no, no .... There have been a GAZILLION engines made over the years 
with cast iron bores and cast iron piston rings.  Nevermind the piston 
itself (although some of those have been cast iron as well), it's the 
RINGS that do esssentially all (hopefully) of the contact with the 
piston bores.  Over the years, more CI rings have been paired with CI 
bores than probably everything else put together a few times over.
