At the very least put a stripe of paint from hub, across the rubber, to the outer ring, so (more) slippage can be detected. Sometimes they move almost continuously, other times they are just wrong.
The accuracy of the mark should be confirmed.against the engine mounted pointer/tab. A positive stop is best. Can be done on an assembled engine without a degree wheel or dial indicator.

about half way down the page
"FINDING T.D.C. ON YOUR HARMONIC DAMPER WITHOUT DEGREE WHEEL"
.
Careful work with a long thin plastic coffee stirrer or soda straw carefully manipulated while turing the engine +/- TDC can get pretty close.

Harmonic balancer slipping. This was replaced with a Dale one when
the engine was rebuild 8 years ago. It seems to be in good condition
and remember the engine has only done about 2000 miles since. Any
other way of checking it apart from visually?
