Yes a check with a good digital vom would be a good idea. Let your battery  
set for about an hour after turning off the engine and check the voltage. 13+  
volts is too high. A fully charged battery should read 12.6 to 12.8 volts. No  
more. So if you are reading higher, then maybe it's your voltmeter. But if 
the  reg is putting out too high a voltage, replace the reg. New ones are in the 
 $15-20 range and easy to change if you disassemble the alt.
