Sorry Padgett but I think the guy who wrote the letter in R&T is closer  to 
the truth.  The '64 Ferrari 250 LM has buttresses, but almost no fairing  like 
the Fitch ones and the Ferrari 599 GTB..  Of course everything is  derivative 
in anything as collaborative as automobile styling.  Mitchell  and his crew 
certainly got a lot from Europe for the LM roofline.
