<VV> Hotel Cancellation Penalty

Ned:
The hotel is charging the penalty at our request. The hotel will get the money. The reason this was put into place a few years ago is because we have had lots of issues with people booking several hotel rooms in the area for a convention. Members would come, select the hotel they liked better and cancel the host hotel room. This causes a problem a couple of ways.
First being if a room is booked it is considered sold and out of hotel inventory. The hotel is considered sold out and no future person can make reservation whether they are part of our group or not.
Example: I call up and make a reservation for the convention. Eventually all the rooms we have blocked for the convention are gone. Susie Smith decides to call and book a room for the convention. Susie is told the hotel is sold out and she has to find another facility.
Problem #2:
Since we are in a signed contract for the hotel that we are going to use 1200 rooms during the course of the week and the hotel has taken those rooms out of the inventory and considered sold, then we CORSA would be responsible for paying for the rooms not slept in.
We also are committing to the hotel that we will use X amount of rooms during our stay. Typically there are meeting rooms fees that are charged for the meeting room used during the convention. We will not be charged for the meeting space if the agreed upon amount of sleeping rooms have been used. Meeting space is VERY expensive.
So we have imposed the one night fee for cancellation if not canceled by a certain date. I will not mention what convention, but we did get into a bind and have to pay for rooms that weren't slept in. Of course, we do have a policy in place should it be a documented emergency cancellation.

I ran Weld Draglites (but in a 14x6 size) on my street car for ice
racing. Awesomely light and decently good looking.

http://fnader.com/Ice_Racing.htm

I liked them so well I also ran them in 15x8 on my track Stinger... no
problems.

Update!

Tinker AFB, OKC, OK.

108 (degrees, not mph!) on the road today... head temps never got over
260 on the gauge (though I'm sure they are running a bit hotter than
that due to the high ambient temps skewing the thermocouple readings).
Heads _inside_ the bus REALLY hot when stopped, but comfortable when
running. They are again thankful for the rooftop AC at night (something
I nearly had to force on them at the time...) Still averaging 19-20mpg,
1 quart of oil added at around 1300 miles total.

First mechanical failure... driver's side wiper arm pulled loose by the
air pressure of meeting huge rigs at high speeds...

Still fighting mobile email issues, so no pix yet, but they've taken plenty.

I nominate Smitty Smith for the Corsa Hard Luck Lifetime Achievement Award. He
certainly seems to desereve it.

I'm really sorry to hear of your latest problem Smitty. I'll let you drive my
car up at the convention if you'd like. It is a late model though....but it
DOES have a harmonic balancer!

Oh man, I'm starting to get nervous about taking my car up. I won't have a
second motive force generator with me. And I panic easy!!!!

The doors for any particular year are basically interchangeable between the
coupe and convert. The convert has a couple of holes for a little plastic
bumper that the coupe does not have. I think the coupe doors have dimples
where the holes go. The doors are NOT interchangeable across all the years.
That is, '65 doors are not usable on '69. The hinges are different. I
think the change was between '66 and '67, but I'm not positive about that.

I had a local shop balance my rebolted flywheels and trusted the
pressure plate reamined balanced. :-) gggg

I used a DA sander to remove the glaze from flywheels and pressure
plates. 80 grit typically to start and then whatever left a good look to
the surface. I have used a 5" grinder, but trying to keep the surface
flat is difficult. :-) But it can remove heavy rust...

"Corvairs in the Curves XVII" Autocross
Sunday, September 10, noon to 6:00PM
CORSA South Carolina
Greenville, South Carolina

"Corvairs in the Curves", our legendary annual autocross will be held

September 10th (rain date: September 17th). Be sure to put this on your
calendar. Club members can run any reasonable motor vehicle. Guests may
run any Corvair powered or Corvair based vehicle.

The autocross will probably be held at Wren High School, Southwest of
Greenville, where it was last year. Details will be announced as they
are available. Plan now to participate. If you've never autocrossed,
this is the time to try it. This event is for novices or experienced
racers. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly with an emphasis on
everybody having fun. Like last year, we are going to use
preregistration. On-site registration will also be available.

Here is what I have for interior paint codes.

Regards
Bigwave Dave Trull

PAINT

The 1962-63 Corvairs have an extra digit on the trim or paint section of the
tag. WRN has the extra digit for interior paint on the Paint section. Ex. 922-7
= Red with black interior paint. (2= blue, 3= aqua,4= fawn,5= red,7= black,8=
saddle (63 only), 9= gold (62 only), R = White/Red (63 only) . Oakland cars have
the code on the trim line.

1964 models have an extra letter instead of number in the Paint section of early
style Fisher bodytag plates. The bodytag plate was changed in mid Oct (between
10A and 10E) to a 2nd style and the interior paint code letter is relocated to
the bottom right corner of bodytag. The 64 bodytag plate is changed again in Mid
March (3C or D) to the same style that is also used on late model 65-66
Corvairs. Late models have a different paint code. They used a two character
code employing two letters for hardtops and a one letter /one digit code for
convertibles. (see photo in the 1964 section for bodytag style change)

Ex. R-R = Regal red, R-C = two tone white top/red bottom, R-1 = Convertible with
red paint and white Conv top. Top colors are 1 = white 2 = black 3(WRN) or
6(LA) = beige

Interior paint code is located at the top right corner of the late model
bodytag.

1964 Interior paint codes: A= Aqua B= Blue C= Saddle D= Red

E= Black F= Fawn Q= White/Red

1965 Interior paint codes: A= Aqua B= Blue C= Saddle D= Red

E= Black F= Fawn H= White/Aqua S= White/Black W= Slate

1966 Interior paint codes : F= Fawn T= Turquoise S = White/Black D= Red

R= Bright Blue E= Black Z= Bronze.

1967 Interior paint codes : 1= Blue 4= Black 5= Fawn 6= Bright Blue 7= Gold.

(These interior paint codes do not appear on Los Angeles built cars. )

Does anyone know how it works to cancel a room reservation at the convention,
get the reservation picked up by someone else and avoid this penalty charge from
CORSA (that I just learned about)?

 penalty charge from CORSA
 <SNIP>

CORSA charges a penalty for canceling a hotel reservation? How can they do that?
Wouldn't that have to be something the hotel charges? Does CORSA actually get
that money?

Well... Let's see. On my reservation (printed by the hotel) it says "If

you wish to cancel, please do so before 6:00PM July 22, 2006 to (hotel time)
to avoid a cancellation fee of $108.06 (1 night + tax).

SO..... There you have it! My calendar says that today is the 21st.

Later, JR
