The Dale website answered my question:
"I bond together with a special compound of black high temperature
silicone rubber. I have formulated this rubber to give the Chevrolet
factory's harmonic balancer frequency of 222 cycles per second tuning.
This is the ideal tuning frequency, according to the GM technical
department test literature."
Attenuation frequency IS important!

At the risk of continuing to beat a very dead horse, I have a technical
question. What is the dampening characteristic of the rebuilt balancers
-- e.g., Dale? Do they duplicate the original frequency attenuation
characteristics or is the rubber simply replaced with urethane?
