Shouldn't., OEM wires for Pontiacs were resistor with R44S plugs
|Also, some plugs also have an "S" at the end. Mean

You mean like R44S or R44FS ? In general the "S" suffix means an extended
tip plug. Have been told that Corvairs do not like extended tip plugs. "T"
or "TS" means a tapered seat (no gasket) plug.
The odd thing about the Corvair plug (the "F") is the 1/2" reach (length of
threads). "FF" were threaded all the way down the body, "F" plugs stop one
thread short. No suffix letter means a 3/8" reach plug and a 44S has the
electrode in almost the same place as a 44F but a lot less threads and the
plug body is shorter so there would be a cavity in the head at the plug to
collect carbon.
For the rest of the decode, the first "4" means a 14mm body and the second
"4" is the heat range which goes from "2" (cold - racing) to "6" hot -
light duty, oil burning engine). These numbers/letters are used by AC only
and every mfr has their own, some backwards.
For everything see http://www.acdelco.com/html/pi_plugs_ident.htm
So far I have been having good luck with Bosch W8ACs.
