-new/rebuilt engine 20 to 30 minutes at 1500 to 2000 rpm
-paint on the cylinders? why? Probably where the smoke is coming from.
-take car out on highway, find a fairly long hill to climb, put pedal to the 
metal (stay under 3000 rpm) and you can pretty much feel the rings set. If 
rings are not set, high oil consumption and lots of blowby.
