John,
Been there, done that at many different dealerships over 15 yrs. Got tire
d of the continual abuse from 'shoppers" that seemed to think picking my
brain (for free) for tidbits of information that would somehow make someoneelses
check fatter. Ofcourse that came with the territory and we always reversed
the old Anti-Carsalesman line, "Do you know when a customer is lying?' "No..."
"When they open their mouth."
>From selling Toyota's, to Mazda's to BMW's to Chevy's, Buicks and Honda's,
each dealership made MANDATORY continued product knowledge. Mandatory.
MAN-DA-TORY. If someone didn't study not only the selling points, but the safety
points, the grind of cold calls, and proper sales techniques in promoting your
vehicle over the competition and somehow managed to merge all into a cohesive,
convincing presentation, they were gone soon.
This is true in ANY profession. If Lawyers or doctors do not study
continuously, they lose out on new treatments or new precedent. If teachers do not
get required continuing study credits, they are punished and/or replaced.
In the 'real' world of cut throat salesmanship, ye who don't stay honest,
studious, and above all positive of spirit are soon looking into other forms
of revenue generation.
Oh BTW, I decided to take a 50% cut in pay to be a teacher, so I knose of
which Iz Speak! (spelliing screwed up because I felt like it.)
As far as Corvair-content.....Dang it, Its cold in my basement....

Finally, to pick on salespeople who might not readily answer your
question....for crying out loud guys....we have been talking about one model car for 40
years and still don't have every answer, and in most cases even a concensus.
