John,
Well said... although I've never been a car salesman. From my experience the
salesmen always came to the guys in the parts department to find out the
different nuances on the cars.... and thats at ALL the dealerships I've worked at
(Toyota 1992-1994, Chevrolet 1995-1998, and Chevrolet, Olds, Pontiac, Buick,
GMC Truck 2001-2004)... the salesmen would usually have a "favorite" parts guy
to go to, usually the one who knew all the answers and would help with a smile,
and NOT the guy who was always ordering the wrong parts...
At the last dealership I worked at there was one guy who'd been there for 10
years, and couldn't find his butt with both hands, a flashlight, and a search
party made up of his closest friends... he was basically paid to sit there and
annoy the hell out of the 2 of us who worked... if any of the techs went to
him it was for an oil filter, and he would sometimes get that wrong!
I miss some of the salesmen from that last dealership... great guys, all of
them, and every once in a while they'd get someone in who saw the Greenbrier
sitting on the lot and ask "How much?"... They would bring them in to me and I'd
set them on the trail of one for sale, although they never would follow
through and buy one... I reckon they thought they could get one real cheap ($200 or
so).... and I'd tell them "That ain't a Ford or a Dodge, thats a
CORVAIR!".....
Well, Happy New Year guys....
