    The reason the upper ball joints got skipped in getting grease is since 
they point STRAIGHT UPWARDS they are almost impossible to grease with a 
standard grease gun fitting without first REMOVING the wheel.  And guess how many 
grease guys at the local shop bothered to do THAT!!  The answer is to replace the 
"straight on" fitting with an ANGLE fitting so that you can easily attach the 
end of the grease gun.  Also, it doesn't hurt to use synthetic grease as long 
as you're doing the job yourself.
